Cochran Boiler Working

Cochran Boiler

Cochran Boiler is a multi-tubular vertical fire tubular with multiple horizontal fire tubes. The efficiency of this boiler is much better than that of an ordinary vertical boiler. This is a modification of a simple vertical boiler where the heating surface has been extended through several fire fats.

Cochran Boiler Working

cochran boiler working

Cochranolar works similarly to other fire tube boilers. This can be understood from the following points.

  • The coal is placed on the grate through a fire hole.
  • The atmosphere is entering the chamber through the atmosphere.
  • Fuel is sparked through the fire hole.
  • Tufted gases flow into the hemisphere’s dome-shaped partition chamber.
  • These flue gases go further into the fire pipe.
  • Heat is the interaction of water in gases to fire tubes.
  • The steam is collected in the upper part of the shell, and when necessary pressure is produced, it is pumped out.
  • The flue gases now send Dennis through a firebox where it releases into the atmosphere.

Boiler Working Principle

boiler working principle

  • Both gas and oil-fired boilers use controlled splitting of fuel to heat water. The major boiler components in this process are burners, partition chambers, heat amber, and controls.
  • The burner mixes fuel and oxygen together and, with the aid of an ignition device, provides a platform for a sweep. It takes place in the horn room, and the heat it generates is transferred to the water through a heat sensor.
  • Hot water is pumped through a pipe by a boiler, and equipment is listed throughout the building, including air-facing units, hot water tap devices of service, and hot water coils in terminal units can do
  • Steam boilers produce steam that flows from high-pressure areas through pipes to low-pressure areas, rendered obsolete by an external power source such as a pump.
  • The steam used for heating can be used by steam using direct equipment or providing heat through a heat exchanger that supplies hot water to the equipment.

Applications of Cochran Boiler

  • The heating equipment is furnished under the mash kettle, and then the steamers enter the heating apparatus by the Cochran steam boiler and then heat the raw material for starch repairs.
  • Cochrane is a modified form of fire-tube boiler that contains various fire nozzles that provide the heat-interaction in water through an infectious. It is used in small power plants and industries.

Advantages of a Hemispherical Combustion Chamber

  • The main body of the boiler is known as the shell. It is hemispherical at the top, where space for steam is provided.
  • This gives a higher volume to hemisphere peak area ratio, which increases steam capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Cochran Boiler

Cochran Boiler is a simple fire tube boiler with multiple fire tubes. It is a modification of a simple vertical boiler. In the Cochran boiler, the heating surface is replaced with multiple fire tubes; that’s why it is the modification of the Simple Vertical Boiler.

Cochran Boiler Working

The Cochran boiler works as same as other fire tube boilers. First, The coal is placed at the grate through the fire hole. Then the air is entering into the combustion chamber through the atmosphere, and fuel is sparked through a fire hole. Heat is exchanged from flue gases to the water into the fire tubes.

Boiler Working Principle

Hot gases are formed by burning fuel in the furnace. These gases are made to come in contact with the water vessel, the point where the heat transfer takes place between the steam and water. Thus, the boiler’s basic principle is to convert water into steam with heat energy.

Advantages of Cochran Boiler

  • A low floor area is required for the boiler installation.
  • Low initialization cost.
  • It is easy to operate.
  • Less manpower requirement for the operation.
  • It is easy to transport from one place to another.
  • It has a higher volume-to-area ratio

Disadvantages of Cochran Boiler

  • Low steam generation rate.
  • Limited pressure handles capacity.
  • It is difficult to inspect and maintain.

Cochran Boiler Application

  • It is used in Refining units.
  • It is used in Paper manufacturing plants.
  • You can find Cochran boilers in Chemical processing divisions.
  • And it is used in a variety of process applications in various industries.

Working on Cochran Boiler

The Cochran boiler works as same as other fire tube boilers. Then the air is entering into the combustion chamber through the atmosphere, and fuel is sparked through a fire hole. Then flue gases start flowing into the hemispherical dome-shaped combustion chamber.

Application of Cochran Boiler

The Cochran boiler was produced by Cochran & Co. of Annan, Scotland. It is widely used in marine practice, either fired directly by coal or oil fuels or else used for heat recovery from the exhaust of large diesel engines. The boiler is a cylindrical vertical water drum with a hemispherical domed top.
